Making something out of nothing
As a child in the school yards of Florida, our founder remembers getting ridiculed after sharing stories of the foods his family ate. Ashamed and embarrassed, it wasn't until nearly 25 years later that he mustered enough courage to speak proudly about his history with food. In the 2018 the Chitlins line was created to to boldly represent the history, struggles, and resilience that many people share surrounding chitlins and foods of their culture.
HISTORY
Chitlins, also known as chitterlings, are the unwanted off cuts known as offals of the pig, specifically the large intestines. During years of enslavement, at hog butchering time, the best cuts of meat were kept for the master's household and the remaining offals were given to the enslaved. Chitlins have since become a regular part of many southerns diets and family traditions.
We bring Chitlins together with fashion to make a statement. Chitlins are no longer the unwanted remnant of pork. Chitlins are a movement, representing the perseverance, preservation, and survival. Chitlins represents turning hardships inside out and the ability to make something out of nothing.
